UNPERMITTED CONSTRUCTION BOMBSHELL

For nearly six years public records have produced no evidence of building permits at Belmont Park, even as major construction has ripped through city land without inspections or oversight.  Restaurants rebuilt, rides altered, decks demolished, stages erected, asbestos ignored.

In April 2025 crews ripped out critical beams from the beachfront deck and carved a massive hole in the Beach House structure. That gap was filled with a multi person cold plunge resting where the main support system once carried the deck. The decking now has no structural integrity.

Every time these plunges are drained the backwash will spill chemical water into the storm drains below and flow straight to the beach.

Photos reveal cranes swinging heavy equipment directly over families in a public park with no safety barriers no engineering review and no permits of any kind.

This is not maintenance. This is systemic lawlessness. Reckless demolition and unpermitted construction in a public park that hosts thousands.

No permits. No inspections. No safety. No accountability.

CITY IGNORES DANGEROUS UNPERMITTED FIRE PITS

Belmont Park installed large open flame gas pits next to the Beach House bar without visible permits, inspections, or Coastal Commission approvals. Flames have been seen climbing over five feet high in windy conditions. Underground gas lines appear unreviewed, raising serious concerns about violations of state, federal, and local safety laws.

A reported injury and lawsuit in the same area appears to have led to a settlement, yet no safety improvements have been made. Gas pits continue operating without railings, barriers, or visible compliance measures, despite the heavy crowds, children, and alcohol nearby.

The Mayor's Office has allowed Belmont Park to run open flames and hidden gas lines without visible permits or enforcement. Each day these conditions continue, Mission Beach remains exposed to a growing and preventable disaster.
