In April 2025, Belmont Park began tearing apart major sections of the beachfront deck — without permits, inspections, or Coastal Commission approval. Photos show the removal of 6" x 10" structural beams, jackhammered concrete footings, and the burial of 8" storm drains under sand, replaced by 2" ABS pipes protruding from unstable fill.
Critical beams, once anchored into the boardwalk's retaining wall, were cut and left unsupported. In two areas, the damage is now concealed behind dry-stacked block walls; in the larger area, cut beams remain visibly unsupported.
California Building Code Section 105.1 requires permits for any structural or drainage work. Yet the Mayor’s Office claims no permits were needed, despite clear threats to public safety.
This was not maintenance — it was uninspected structural demolition at a public venue hosting thousands of people.
No permits. No oversight. No accountability.
